Marsh Scott – "Artist of the Year" nomination - Art Star Awards
I have just been nominated for “Artist of the Year” by the Laguna Beach Arts Alliance for their “Art Star Awards” in Laguna Beach. The Awards Ceremony will take place March 31st. This was completely unexpected, but a wonderful surprise. I am honored.

Focus on Spring Cleaning and Art from the Past

After getting the Merced project delivered, I started working on some "Spring Cleaning", especially in my "Paper Room". This room is where I store canvases, boards, works on paper and just about anything vertical. As I start new series or do commissions work gets put in this room - and sometimes never comes out. I pulled out every piece that was not finished, needed some work, or might just need to be documented and re-varnished to show or sell.Beginning

One particular group of paintings I hardly showed at all since at the time I was showing mostly my paper sculptures. These "Strata" paintings are heavily textured and metallic. Like my current series "Earthprints", these works reflect patterns of the earth but from a different perspective. I am currently cleaning, varnishing and documenting these pieces and will put them on the website as they get finished - probably on a page of their own. You can see the work in progress during the Open Studio.

Artists often have trouble figuring out what to do with "old" art. Do you re-paint it or throw it away? Do you donate it or give it away or do you just keep pushing it to back of your studio. Or have you kept it because you don't really want to sell it?

For most of the "Strata" pieces I am making them new again. Some of the other pieces I found I will get rid of some way . . . I just wish I would come up with a way to re-invent them into sculpture - re-cycled art is getting some buzz right now.
